Background
About Dave Lamb
My career as a software developer started in 2008 at Research In Motion (now BlackBerry) as the second hire on the simulator team. As a primarily self-taught Windows developer, I had to quickly ramp up on a full stack that spanned from interrupt service routines to procedural asset generation for user interfaces. The unique position of the team meant that no part of the phone's operating system or infrastructure was out of bounds. After surviving the acquisition of QNX (which immediately put my product into maintenance mode, and saw the adoption of a new simulator) I decided to join a small startup that was trying to do the impossible. Inception Mobile's promise was to take your iPhone App's.IPA file and run it on another device, such as Windows PC or a BlackBerry. As employee #6, my duties ranged from UI design and implementation, to writing DWARF/COFF symbol tables and implementing a GDB debugserver. It wasn't a year before Microsoft arranged to purchase the company and move everyone to Redmond, Washington. At Microsoft, my duties remained unchanged but for the renewed focus on Microsoft technologies. As the team grew, I quickly became the goto for anything UI related. I spent almost two years making UIKit talk Xaml, and ObjectiveC talk C#. When Windows Phone was dropped, I decided to move on to the Analog team at Microsoft. While at the then-called Analog team at Microsoft, I lived a double life as an experimental build architect and a Hololens platform developer. If I wasn't knee-deep in ancient build systems, I was waist-deep in cutting-edge platform APIs. After almost three years at Microsoft, I wanted a change they were unable to offer, so I decided to take a break from corporate life and travel North America on an epic year-long road trip.
