About Dave Long

I have been working in the IT department at Helen Ross McNabb Center since March 1, 2010 as an applications administrator and programmer. I have been developing VB.Net desktop applications and have worked with the NetSmart CMHC system and its script language called uScript. The electronic medical record software in use is Centricity Practice Solution by GE, soon to be re-branded by new owner athenaHealth as athenaPractice. The Helen Ross McNabb Center is truly a great place to work, and I have loved every day of it! We help people recover from their addictions to drugs and alcohol, and other mental and behavioral problems. We have over 19 clinics in several counties around Knox County. In 2013, the Fortwood Clinics in Chattanooga, TN were merged with McNabb, and a few months later, the clinics of Child and Family Services of TN also merged with McNabb. I love our center's slogan:"Improving the lives of the people we serve"​. Pat Summit was a huge supporter of the company and their mission, which was wonderful! We also have several benefit shows or sponsored events during the year that raise money for the Center. Prior to Helen Ross McNabb Center, I worked at Goody's Family Clothing, Inc. from April 1989 until they went out of business in March 2009. I moved from Computer Operator to Senior Systems Analyst, worked with COBOL and VB6 applications for all our store locations. At the peak of the company's growth, there were 385 stores in the Southeast. I can honestly say it was a great company to work for, and the 19 years of experience I gained there has proven to be extremely valuable at McNabb. I suppose it's true that all good things come to an end. Sadly. I also enjoy working with graphics and video, or multimedia in general. In fact, each new VB program I created had a dash of my graphical talent in it, from splash screens to the user interface. One goal of mine is to pursue my interest in graphics or digital media, like audio/video production work, or even web site design.
