Specialties: Media training, crisis communications, presentation skills, consultancy, outreach, and frequent guest speaker. No stranger to media relations and crisis communications, I’ve handled numerous crisis situations including terrorist bombings, hostage situations, kidnappings, murders, plane crashes, hazardous chemical spills, tornadoes, hurricanes and a few top level management scandals. As a Public Affairs Specialist with the Census Bureau’s Public Information Office, I conducted media skills training to approx. 250 people from the headquarters staff. Additionally, I conducted refresher media skills training for 65 Partnership and Data Services field staff. I began my career with the Census Bureau as a Media Partnership Specialist Team Leader. During my tenure at the Charlotte Regional Census Center, I conducted media and crisis communication skills training to the management staff of the region’s 50 Local Census Offices and all members of the region’s partnership staff. I also conducted presentation, media skills and crisis communication training to all the regional Senior Field representatives. I am a former Public Relations Director for The Salvation Army in Columbia, SC. I also served as the civilian Deputy Chief of Public Affairs at Shaw Air Force Base, SC during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Staff and helped keep families informed about the health and well-being of Shaw AFB people deployed to the Middle East. We did this through town meetings, newsletters and the base newspaper. Also served as the spokesperson for visits by CNN, CBS Morning News, The Today Show and Good Morning America. Supervised media center operations for the President’s “Welcome Home” address to the troops at Sumter Memorial Stadium. Now, I do volunteer work with a church group and other nonprofits' as aPR person. Seriously thinking about “Hanging my Shingle” and getting back to work.
