About Dave Washburn

I am a leader that builds motivated and engaged teams. I'm known for optimizing pipelines, always improving and eliminating waste (*sawdust). I have designed and built over 50 mocap volumes/stages from scratch (indoor and outdoor). I know every detail matters so I obsess on those details. Experience has taught me to study and follow every detail in the documentation and then use critical thinking and put everything to the test in real production. I maintain strong relationships with developers as I push their software and hardware to the limits, and drive them to improve by recommending solutions. I know my perspective needs to be challenged and collaboration is the only way to succeed. I started in motion capture back in 1992 at BioVision doing golf swing analysis, then Westwood Studios (Command & Conquer), then on to Sony Imageworks to work on The Polar Express, and then at 2K Games for 16 years where I delivered thousands of mocap character hours for 112 titles. Currently, I am fully engaged in the NSRL at Nike, building the greatest motion capture research facility in the world. Over the years I've worked on numerous projects and have endless stories and great memories. I have also written magazine articles and given multiple presentations at confrences and media events.
