About David Amaro

My current role as a Lead R&D Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Scientist at Quantinuum consists in supervising 4-7 Ph.D and postdoctoral scientists working on 7-10 research projects on QEC. In my projects, I optimise existing QEC protocols and develop new ones, like a patented general method to prepare CSS codes or the Iceberg code, a patented resource-efficient quantum error detection code to protect large and expressive quantum circuits like QAOA (project with JPMC quantum research team) from noise on today's trapped-ion quantum hardware. In my previous role I proposed, implemented, analysed, and patented new resource-efficient variational quantum algorithms for combinatorial optimisation. With clients, I guided the initial conversations, prepared scientific proposals, supervised the research and produced scientific manuscripts as well as didactic and rigorous material to advertise the successful collaboration in the media. Previously, for my Ph.D thesis "Quantum Error Correction for robust Quantum Computation" I designed protocols to correct qubit losses on topological color codes and developed entanglement witnesses to efficiently characterise the entanglement structure of QEC codes on hardware. I presented my work on several conferences and summer schools, taught physics undergraduate students, delivered various lecture series about quantum computation topics, and supervised Ph.D students.
