About David Arcos

Geologist (University of Barcelona, 1990). From 1990 to 1996 he focused his research on the geochemistry of hydrothermal ore deposits at the University of Barcelona, obtaining a Master degree (1991) and a PhD in Geology (University of Barcelona, 1996). From 1997 he is a senior consultant at AMPHOS 21 Consulting S.L, Manager of the Site and Engineering Barrier Assessment Group since 2007, and Director of Mining Geochemistry since 2010. The main expertise is related to the geochemistry of natural systems, mining sites and engineered barriers through the development of reactive-transport models in projects related to natural analogues, experiments in underground research laboratories and mining sites. Most of these models were applied to understand the long term evolution of different parts of the barrier system, including the geologic media, as well as to understand the main processes associated to the Acid Rock Generation (ARD) in mining sites. He has more than 30 publications in international scientific journals. Throughout his professional career he has mainly worked in projects dealing with nuclear waste management for the different European waste management agencies and the European Commission and for different mining companies, mainly in South America.
