Background
About David Aula
For years, I juggled working in the theatre with increasing experience and expertise in Learning and Development. Then, when I became a father, I decided I needed to integrate all the interests, experiences, skills and what talent I have behind a single purpose: to keep meaning alive on planet Earth. I soon discovered emerging and growing movements sprouting all over the world hinting at a more beautiful existence that might be possible if humans can change the systems, cultures, behaviours and mindsets that govern our reality in time. The best theatre helps us grow our understanding of ourselves and the world around us, the best learning experiences are exciting, moving, visceral and memorable. Unfeasible liberates theatre from the need for any specialist performance space, and liberates 'Learning' from the forms many of us associate with it (School, webinars, lectures, workshops). Those traditional spaces of both theatre and learning all too often create results that are the exact opposite to those intended: theatre spaces can tend to keep the magic inside, excluding hundreds of thousands of people, often concerned with narrow personal or interpersonal dramas; classrooms can turn the light of learning off in the student, turn the excitement of discovery into the pressure of retention. An Unfeasible Experience sets imaginations on fire, sets hearts aglow and lifts spirits up to the heavens. In the next thirty years EVERYTHING must change. And probably not in comfortable iterative steps. We must do things with our lives, our relationships, our workplaces, our societies, our environments, perhaps even our whole universe, that currently seem unfeasible. That means 1) being brave enough to 'do' when there is scant evidence to suggest that action will be effective; 2) we must Un-Do. work on dismantling the boundaries (psychological and material) that keep us convinced that we must accept the realities we so easily recognise as disastrous and 3) We must engage with the essence of Un-Doing. or as we say to each other in the theatre,"Stop Acting!" Every actor knows this is not an invitation to inertia, or disengagement. it is an invitation to 'Be'. When Gandhi said "be the change" he didn't say "Do the differences". He hinted that the work was at least as much INTERNAL as it is EXTERNAL, if not much much more so. We believe that we are building our Unfeasible Worlds.
