Spight has been highly involved in NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising, a professional organization focused on enhancing academic advising with nearly members nationally and internationally. He has served as chair of Commission on Undecided/Exploratory Students, a member of the council, a board member, Vice President, and most recently as President in 2015-2016. Spight is currently the Director of Undergraduate/Undeclared Advising at UC Irvine, serves on the faculty in the College of Education at Cal State Fullerton, and is a member of the editorial board for the Research in Brief section of the Journal of College Student Development. Spight earned his Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama.
