About David Bang

With over five years of experience in optics and photonics, I have worked across R&D, optical engineering, and process integration, contributing to the development of cutting-edge optical systems. My expertise spans infrared and visible-light optical design, integrated photonics, interferometry, LiDAR, and semiconductor fabrication, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in manufacturing and testing. Throughout my career, I have been involved in designing, testing, and optimizing optical systems, including LWIR lenses, visible-light systems, and silicon photonic devices. I have developed custom testing frameworks for validating optical performance, troubleshooting fabrication issues, and improving production processes. My work has also included simulating and developing novel photonic architectures, such as Optical Phased Arrays (OPA), photonic crystal waveguides, and multimode interference couplers. In addition to optical design, I have experience in semiconductor fabrication and process integration, working with 8-inch Si and SOI wafer-based CMOS-compatible processes. I have contributed to cleanroom fabrication, optical testing, and data processing, bridging the gap between fabrication and device performance characterization. My academic research focused on Fabry-Pérot interferometry for non-contact measurement of optical properties, enabling simultaneous characterization of refractive indices and thicknesses.
