About David Bridges

I am employed as a process engineer at TRISO-X, where I have worked for four years. In that time, I have been responsible for the continued development of waste processing and material recovery operations at the TRISO fuel plant, which is under construction in Oak Ridge, TN. I am responsible for developing disposition pathways for all facility waste streams and have coordinated with waste processing facilities and radioactive waste disposal sites achieve this. I have performed cost modeling to determine the most cost-effective methods for disposal of waste while complying with NRC, DOT, and EPA regulations regarding the transportation, processing, and disposal of low-level radioactive and Resource Conversation and Recovery Act (RCRA) mixed waste. I am also responsible for the development of material recovery operations. I have drafted process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P & IDs), equipment specifications, and process descriptions for evaporators, acid fume scrubbers, water treatment systems, and drum dryers. I have led discussions with equipment manufacturers and engineering design companies and led multiple competitive bidding processes to select suppliers. I have participated in several process hazard analyses (PHAs) for the process equipment I am designing and have drafted reports acknowledging changes to the systems under evaluation to meet safety requirements. In addition to this, I was the recipient of a Game Changer Award in 2023 for introducing a new process to recover hydrogen chloride.
