About David Brough

For the past 20 plus years it has been my passion to create and grow companies with extremely talented teams. People often ask me when I am mentoring them how I gained the knowledge I have. I tell them for the first 15 years on my own I spent 90% of my time listening and 10% talking when I was working with a board and industry leaders. Make no mistake I paid considerable attention to those I didn't consider leaders in order to learn from their pitfalls as well. Even though I was focused on not making mistakes I made many. In fact one of those mistakes was chasing the trend in Natural Gas which at the time was on the rise. With the market being hot I set out with a team of professionals to create a unique project focused and dependant on the natural gas market in the Horn river Basin. Even though I was able to secure a $144m term sheet, when the Natural Gas market grumbled so did we. This lead to my only total failure as an Entrepreneur! Wow I thought my world was ending. When I picked myself up and set out to find my next challenge I was smarter, better prepared and focused on structuring the right deal prepared to weather and excel during the down cycle. In fact I learnt more from the failure than I ever had the successful ones. Working with people both on a paid consultancy and pro bono has allowed me to venture into multiple sectors from various industries.
