My name is David Capizzi and I am currently serving as a third-grade teacher at Craig Hill Elementary School. My strengths lie in my knowledge of instruction, rapport with students, and professionalism. I have been involved in our school community beyond my work in the classroom. This has included teaching every year in our after-school tutoring program, as well as serving on a number of school committees over the years, including the building management team and School Improvement Team. I have consistently demonstrated a commitment to expanding my own knowledge and learning. This has included extensive literacy training (our District’s professional development course work) as well as being involved in all aspects of our school community connected to our district and building goals. In the area of instruction, I bring a wide knowledge of curriculum across many grade levels, and standards area. In my educational career I have taught every grade level, K-6. I have embraced Craig Hill's philosophy of full-inclusion, and have demonstrated the ability to work closely with our special education teachers to develop a modified program for students that allows them to be successful in the general education setting. Every year that I taught at Westridge Elementary, I taught in the integrated co-teach classroom with a special education teacher and worked with some of the most challenging students from both an academic and behavioral standpoint. My expectations, consistency, and scaffolding have promoted high levels of growth in my students – socially and academically. I am a hard-working professional. I work closely and collaboratively with peers on my professional learning team. This work has included discussing and mapping out the implementation of new curriculum in both ELA (ARC Reading) and math this year. This has included working as a team to analyze data and determine student strengths and needs (collectively and individually). Additionally, I have worked with my grade level team to provide appropriate interventions to support and enrich students during intervention block (WIN-time) in both ELA and math. I am highly organized, hard-working and conscientious and I strive to provide my students with an excellent educational experience.
