Background
About David Capps
I began my career in healthcare as a mental health social worker and worked in the field for 15 years. During that time, I found that a significant cause for the lack of measurable improvement in patient functioning and clinical outcomes was, in large part, due to poor information management. Initially, I was in school to become a healthcare administrator. However, when my father died at the early age of 72, due to being over-medicated and suffering from adverse drug reaction issues, I decided that I wanted to know how something like that could happen. That is when I pursued a master's level education in healthcare data and information. I've been passionately pursuing the work of improving patient access to information and healthcare technology ever since. I have always considered myself an altruistic, innovative, type of person and have had some moderate success with creating new data or technical systems during my career. Nonetheless, I have always been creatively limited by working for organizations that do not share the same purposefulness for utilizing technology in upgrading patient health care outcomes. Unfortunately, in healthcare, most administrators and managers are not technical experts or inclined to step into that box. My 20-year career working for the county and state was a regrettable lesson about working in cultures that are not conducive to innovation. I am always in search of opportunities to share my experiences and interest in healthcare technology, telehealth, HME, and patient data access. I am a member of several telehealth organizations in Texas and nationally such as TEXLA and TTAC. In addition to my career, I also have owned a computer repair and mobile media consultant business for the past 10 years, including being a single dad to a teenage boy. Despite my obvious time constraints, I remain very committed to playing a part in improving patient access and creating innovative, in-depth, telehealth, and remote patient home health platforms.
