About David Chou

I am a Principal Scientist at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University, where I lead the Bone Marrow Organ Chip team, and am the Principal Investigator of the AVATAR project at Emulate, Inc. My current work focuses on developing novel small molecule drugs that mitigate radiation-induced tissue injury and investigating the effects of spaceflight (including space radiation) on the hematopoietic system.As a physician scientist, I have a strong interest in creating human-relevant in vitro models from primary patient cells for translational research. My current projects leverage the human Bone Marrow Organ Chip I developed, which is a microfluidic 3D culture system that supports multilineage hematopoietic development, improves prediction of drug responses at clinical dosing, and recapitulates patient-specific disease phenotypes.
