About David Christy

David Christy is currently in his fifth year as Director of Bands for the Ponca City Public Schools. In his tenure the total band program at Ponca City has more than doubled in size and the Ponca City High School Band is earning its highest ratings in many years. Prior to his tenure at Ponca City, he taught one year at Bridgeport, Texas and two years at Sunray, Texas where bands under his direction earned consistent superior ratings. His teaching experience totals 38 years which included thirteen years at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. While at Southeastern, he conducted the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band. He also taught conducting and instrumental method courses and recruited for the Fine Arts Department. He was also the faculty sponsor for the Eta Nu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and served on the Faculty Senate. He was awarded the Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Teaching and was a member of the Teaching Academy. Prior to his tenure at Southeastern, he enjoyed seventeen years of successful teaching in Leoti, Kansas; Elk City, Oklahoma; and Hale Center, Texas; with outstanding programs that consistently won sweepstakes awards. At Elk City he built the largest band in its class in the state of Oklahoma and the band was featured at several national events, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade. He has been named Band Director of the Year for the State of Oklahoma and has received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence. He has been listed in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in America. He has served as an office in many state organizations and is in demand as an adjudicator, consultant, and guest conductor throughout the United States. He is married and has one daughter.
