About David Clarke

I am a psychiatrist with research and clinical interests in the areas of depression and the links between depression and physical illness - these links being both biological and psychological. With colleagues I have developed and tested disease self-management programs for people with depression together with heart disease, diabetes and cancer. I am also interested in how healthcare systems are structured and operate, and the application of design thinking to complex health systems in order to improve their effectiveness and make their use a more positive experience for consumers. I have served as Research Advisor to beyondblue and member of the National Lead Clinician Group formed as part of the National Health Reform in Australia. I want to make a difference for people with mental illness and their families.
