About David Cleave

I recently graduated from McMaster University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering & Co-op. I am driven by working on projects with like-minded individuals. I take great pride for my work and want the team I'm working for to be successful. When I'm working with the right team on a project I'm passionate about, I become completely immersed in my work and can't stop until I reach a solution I'm satisfied with. I have a curious mind and am able to identify how combinations of different actions can lead to unintended outcomes. I realized this talent directly applies to cyber security which has been an interest of mine over the past few years where I have identified several vulnerabilities in companies' websites so that they could be fixed. This way of thinking not only applies to cyber security but also physical systems. I'm able to recognize potential risks, failure mechanisms, and areas for improvement that most people wouldn't normally think of. I constantly question the way I do things and look for a solution to improve the process. During my 15-month internship with Ontario Power Generation, I identified inefficiencies with several tasks and developed software solutions primarily in the form of Python, Javascript, and VBA scripts. These scripts were not only developed for my use but also for co-workers in my department as well as employees across the entire company. I love to learn and develop new skills. I'm a fast learner because I make an active effort to reflect on my previous performance and identify areas of improvement, whereas most people would do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. I want to work for a company that encourages personal development and growth.
