About David Close

David is an experienced and scientist and energy industry executive who has studied and worked across the UK, North America and Australia. He has held senior leadership positions at ASX20 companies and also at junior exploration companies prior to entering academia as an Industry Professor. David holds a D.Phil. in Marine Geophysics from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and a B.Sc.(Hons 1st Class) from the University of Tasmania. David has extensive technical, commercial and operational experience, and has led stakeholder engagement, land access, project management and environmental approvals in a variety of projects and jurisdictions. David's current research interests include all aspects of Australian and international energy markets from generation and storage technologies to policy development; scenario, uncertainty and risk analysis; life-cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis; and regional geology and plate tectonics. David consults through Close & Co. Advisors across technical, commercial and strategic aspects of the energy industry and resource development projects. David has also been an active volunteer in industry associations and conference organising committees.
