In 2001 David founded Structural Focus in Los Angeles after working for 20 years at another large structural engineering consulting firm in San Francisco and L. A. David built his firm on excellent client care, great communications and engineering expertise. The Structural Focus mission is to "design excellent building that we can be proud of and be proud of how we do it"​. The firm strives to be beyond consultants - to become their clients'​ "trusted advisors". David is also co-founder and Managing Director of SAFEq Institute which serves as a resource for post-disaster inspections information and providing direct services to government entities and business owners. David is a recognized expert in building business resiliency and continuity related to disaster risks. He was an on-the-ground responder, inspecting buildings for weeks after several earthquakes including Coalinga, Morgan Hill, Loma Prieta, Cape Mendocino, and Northridge. He believes that preplanning and partnerships with Cities can greatly reduce business interruption after an earthquake or other disaster. That belief was the driving idea behind co-founding SAFEq Institute.David is a Licensed Structural Engineer in multiple states including California, AZ, NV, CO, FL, MD, GA, NY, NC, PA and IL. David enjoys working with special and innovative buildings and structures. He has built an expertise in retrofitting historic buildings including the famous Hotel del Coronado near San Diego, The San Francisco Ferry Building and over two dozen buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Entertainment and film industry structures are another specialty including new and retrofitted sound stages, new post-production facilities and assorted buildings at Warner Bros, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Dreamworks and others. David helps his many clients face and prepare for business resilience in the event of a disaster that could limit his client’s access to their facilities.Specialties: Structural Focus specializes in the design of preservation of historic structures and in the design of, university facilities, film studio facilities such as post-production, sound stages, theaters other assorted buildings. Additional experience includes performance spaces, museums, lab facilities, commercial properties and very high-end single family residences. Working with "campus" clients for many years, S. F. has also developed an expertise in pre-planning for post-disaster recovery.
