About David Cortens
My main scientific interests are (bio)chemistry and biotechnology. For this reason I decided to follow a multidisciplinary track and start with a Bachelor in Chemistry at the University of Hasselt, followed by a Master in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). Afterwards I chose Hasselt University to obtain my PhD, where I was able to use my expertise on yeast to evaluate the amber suppression approach for the site-specific modification of proteins. After my PhD I made the transition to industry, but after 6 years, I decided to return to the academic world. Currently I am assistant professor at the Maastricht Science Programme. In my personal life my interests are traveling, hiking, exploring new cultures, swimming and spending time with my family.
