Background
About David Cressy
Born and raised in southern Louisiana, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of a warming climate and the environmental racism that comes with it. Growing up in the Louisiana outdoors—which meant hunting and fishing—taught me respect for our environment and a deep appreciation for its dynamic systems. Digging my heals into this passion, I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Ecosystem Sciences and Sustainability from Colorado State University. My undergraduate experience provided me with an educated systems approach to environmental problems. After claiming my title as a "COVID grad", I started a job with the National Park Service (NPS) through AmeriCorp, which gave me deeper insight into project management and the many legal obligations researchers and scientists need to fulfill during their work. The slow pace, data-centric nature of science led me to go to law school for environmental issues. My Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS) experience has opened my eyes to the reality of our energy situation. Offering a highly specialized and unique energy law education (where I received a J.D. with a Concentration in Energy), VLGS has shaped me into a well-rounded energy policy and development expert. I’ve had the opportunity to intern for a solar developer, venture capitalists in renewable energy, a pro bono energy consulting clinic, and a municipal utility with almost customers. I also anticipate the completion of my LLM in energy law and policy May 2025. Although I’m still young and finishing up my Legum Magister, I’m eager to apply my skills and knowledge to advance the energy transition in an economically efficient and equitable manner.
