About David D Doran

David is currently building a new EdTech Startup called WeLearn aimed at drastically improving the education options available to families in developing countries. WeLearn delivers a highly personalized education model to secondary students which fuses online academic, life skills and hands on experiential learning in a tech-inspired learning space. WeLearn is also building out a online platform which will deliver its model economically and efficiently. As a sustainable social enterprise, WeLearn's mission is make its personalized, future relevant learning system accessible to families in developing countries without access to good education. David’s first startup was a law firm called DFDL, which he started from humble beginnings in Laos in 1994 and grew to 150 lawyers in 13 offices across Southeast Asia. Working as a lawyer in the region since 1992, he founded DFDL in 1994 in Laos, the firm’s office in Phnom Penh in 1995, where he spent 8 years, and the firm’s expansion into Thailand in 2003. David was then based predominantly in Bangkok where his practice focused on regional project finance, energy, infrastructure and telecommunications. He is a member of the California and Washington State Bar Associations, and has a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington, School of Law, where he served on the Law Review. David was born in Thailand, is a Thai national and speaks English and French.
