About David da Silva

I am a recent graduate of the Master of Social Work program at Wilfrid Laurier University. In my coursework I engaged in the development of critically reflexive practice skills through ongoing integration of knowledge, theory and practice within a framework that promotes the advancement of equity, inclusivity, reflexivity, and social justice. The pursuit of these academic studies was applied at my practicum as a Social Work Student at Centrepeace Counselling and Therapy Services Inc where I work with individuals, families, and parents of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals and provide counselling and psychoeducation. I am also a Crisis Counsellor at Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley (CMHA TV). CMHA TV Crisis Services are open 24/7 where I meet with individuals and family members to conduct assessments, engage in brief solution focused therapy, and provide system navigation. I also work in a relief capacity within the various programs and services located at CMHA TV’s Crisis Center. Prior to the completion of my graduate studies, I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology at McMaster University and a post-graduate certificate in Concurrent Disorders at Mohawk College. I have engaged in continuous learning through various webinars, workshops and courses such as Level I and II Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Certificate and Sexual Violence Response Certificate both through Wilfrid Laurier University which are utilized within my social work practice. I have garnered valuable experience through my career having worked in diverse social service settings in a variety of capacities including but not limited to case management, peer support, community engagement, educator, leadership, project developer and manager, and clinician. My experiences contribute to my expertise of topics such as 2SLGBTQ+ affirming care, mental health, addictions, harm reduction, suicide prevention, and program planning, creation and evaluation.
