About David Danelski

David Danelski is a seasoned communications professional who is adept at preparing and promoting content about science, business, education and policy that is lucid and compelling for lay audiences. He joined UC Riverside' University Relations team in 2022 as a Senior Public Information Officer after working for nearly four years as a communication director for a startup biotechnology firm embedded in complex science. He succeeded in obtaining positive science news coverage about the company on BBC radio and television, Scientific American, USA Today, and several other news outlets worldwide. He also has more than 20 years of experience as an environmental and investigative newspaper reporter in Southern California. This experience gave him expertise in climate change, air pollution, business, finance, and transportation, among other topics. Incidentally, his reporting about a deadly terrorist attack in 2015 prompted his appearances on CNN (Anderson Cooper), MSNBC (Rachel Maddow), Fox News (Megyn Kelly), and several other national news outlets. Danelski has been honored by the Society of Environmental Journalists, the California Newspaper Publishers Association, and the Associated Press News Executive Council, among other professional groups. He also received a year-long fellowship with the USC Annenberg Foundation to probe the health effects and costs of air pollution on children in Southern California. He is a graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle and first worked for smaller newspapers in the Pacific Northwest. David's personal interests include marathon running, bicycling, photography, gardening, and woodworking. He is married to Lorrie Cobain, an English teacher at Riverside's Martin Luther King Jr. High School.
