As someone with ADHD, I understand firsthand how impulsivity, distractibility, and procrastination often make managing our money difficult. Early in my career, I felt like an imposter. I provided sound advice to my clients, but I struggled to practice what I was preaching. I ended up in too much debt, spent too much money on things I didn’t need and took impulsive gambles in the stock market that I would never have advised my clients to do. When I had my daughter, Charlotte, everything changed. I realized my relationship with my money was unhealthy and that I needed to make a change. I decided to face up to my ADHD. I learned to embrace it and accept myself for who I was. ADHD is part of me. It’s a lifelong struggle. And I have deliberately chosen to frame it as positive. During my research on ADHD, I realized that I want to help others like me. If there is anybody who could use a financial advisor, it is someone with ADHD because structure and accountability are something we generally very much need to get the best out of ourselves. That’s why I do financial planning differently. I set up a process designed explicitly with the obstacles people with ADHD face in mind. I’ll take care of the confusing stuff and show you a visually appealing and easy-to-digest path forward. We’ll work together to find ways to implement recommendations in a way that will stick.
