About David Doherty

Having graduated from Bournemouth University with a first-class BSc Hons degree in Physiotherapy I have gained experience working in acute NHS wards, outpatient departments, community settings and professional sport. During my career I have gained experience in the assessment and treatment of many patient populations such as musculoskeletal outpatients, orthopaedics, neurological rehabilitation (inpatient and community based), stroke, elderly care, amputee rehabilitation and respiratory disorders including completing respiratory on calls and covering ICU. Treating these populations has greatly improved my manual handling, assessment and treatment skills allowing me to clinically reason and apply manual techniques, electrotherapy, exercise prescription and patient education with treatments. I consistently demonstrate my ability to use an evidence based, best practice approach in my physiotherapeutic interventions to achieve optimum patient outcomes. This involves using reflective practice to inform and improve my future practice, patient centred goal setting and regular monitoring of progress using appropriate, validated outcome measures. During my career I have been consistently engaged in both my own and departmental continuing professional development through my own initiative, external courses, departmental in-service training and supervising junior members of staff and students. Since 2018 I have specialised as a senior outpatient physiotherapist within the NHS, private practice and professional sport, treating a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders. During this time, I have been able to develop my clinical skills both in public health and private settings in the UK and UAE.
