About David Doukas
I am the Director of the Program in Medical Ethics and Human Values at Tulane University. I have held the James A. Knight Chair of Humanities and Ethics in Medicine at Tulane, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine since 2017. I also serve as the IntegratedEthics Program Officer at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans, as well as the VISN16 Clinical Ethics Liaison. I was the Founding President of the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care (2012-2019), an organization devoted to enhancing professionalism through ethics and humanities education. Prior to accepting my current responsibilities, I served on the faculty of the Georgetown University, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Louisville. Specialties: Teaching and writing in the areas of professionalism, primary care bioethics, human genetics, and end-of-life decision-making.
