About David Engel

I have been a licensed attorney in California since June 1, 2017. I have criminal experience as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney. My mission is to better the community in whatever capacity I can. Since my admission date, I have focused myself on the practice of criminal law. I have a tremendous zeal for it, and this zeal has brought me success in and out of trial. Since November of 2022, I have worked as a prosecutor in Yuba City, Sutter County. Playing a role in the community's safety is extremely important to me; prosecution is my calling. Trial work is one of my favorite aspects of the job. In my time as a prosecutor, I have had two misdemeanor and two felony trials. I also enjoy connecting with victims to determine their wishes with respect to case resolutions. While the demands of a prosecutor are both difficult and numerous, I wouldn't trade my work for anything. The late hours bring me a profound sense of fulfillment. In my time as a defense attorney, I represented clients in various criminal cases. These cases include domestic violence; DUI; theft; vandalism; sex offenses; and more still. The opportunity to assist clients in achieving their goals doesn't just serve the client's interests—it can also play a role in the betterment of the entire community. It is in serving the interests of the community that I find satisfaction in my work. Criminal law work provides me ample satisfaction in this way. I am proud to have achieved successful results in trial, including an acquittal in a sex offense case and a hung jury in an attempted murder case. A salient opportunity my career afforded me was the chance to represent a client in a DEA interview and debriefing. From 2021 to 2022, I worked in Sacramento County as a volunteer attorney with the Public Defender's Office. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients and cases.
