About David Farley

I have worked for two Class One railroads, CSX for 18 years and Norfolk Southern for two, followed by a brief stint at RJ Corman. My experience includes Mechanical, Transportation/Conductor, Engineering, Purchasing and Materials, and Community Affairs & Safety. I have also worked extensively with the Engineering, Law and Public Affairs, Property Management, and Public Projects departments at the railroad. Before the railroad, I worked at Marrowbone Development Company during my undergraduate years and later at Massey Energy near historic Matewan, West Virginia, at the flagship operation of the company, Rawl Sales and Processing. I have worked in underground coal mines, at surface coal operations, coal preparation plants and testing labs. I have earned two Masters Degrees during my career, the first in Labor Relations/Human Resource Management from Marshall University in 2008, and Transportation Logistics/Supply Chain Management from American Public/Military University in 2017. My hobbies are writing, learning new languages and doing rugged work outdoors. I have taught myself Spanish and greatly enjoy learning challenging new things. Recently, I have finished my first book, a two-volume set entitled "From The Other Side Of The Tracks: Stories From Off The Main Lines, Volumes One and Two," a compilation of stories about some of the great experiences I have had during my career at CSX. Ranging from community events, railroad safety,(Operation Lifesaver) train rides, coal mining and local history, rail operations and unique facilities across West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia, the book covers some great, behind-the-scenes aspects of railroading.
