About David Feffer

A member of the 3rd generation of shareholders of Suzano, founded by my grandfather, Leon Feffer, over 100 years ago, I started at the company when I was young and worked in several areas and projects until I became CEO in 2001. Reflecting our commitment to building a long-term legacy that would lead Suzano to finish the 21st century better than it started, we made the decision to improve the company’s corporate governance and professionalize its management. Believing that the best way to inspire is by example, in 2003, I stepped down from my position as CEO and became chairman of the Board. At the same time, we founded Suzano Holding, of which I became CEO. In addition to being the main shareholder of Suzano S.A, the holding company operates in the technology, real estate development, asset management and investment sectors. I often say that my main role in the company is to help chart where we are headed, with whom and how we are going to get there. In other words, it is to define an effective strategy and the proper allocation of capital to build a “fertile breeding ground” of qualified, diverse and inspiring individuals. It is also knowing how to bring these people together with motivation and joy to develop our projects and doing all that in a way that generates value. I believe that we must exercise our ambidexterity—our ability to embrace “AND” instead of “OR”. That is why in business, we value consistent results in the short term, always in line with a sustainable vision and strategy in the long term. After all, companies that have a purpose that is greater than their own success, that generate and share value with ALL stakeholders, are the ones that will thrive. As we say, you can’t have a healthy business in a sick world. I also embrace possibilities to improve the quality of life of people and the planet, such as participating in environmental, social and cultural initiatives and organizations, mentoring people, and supporting education, sports and entrepreneurship. On a personal level, I enjoy reading, exercise every day and try to capture some of what I see through the lens of a camera. I believe that education is the main driver of transformation in society and that innovation is much more than results it is a process, a practice, a way of life.
