Since November 2017 I have been with Bachmann Monitoring GmbH, shaping the development of the Condition Monitoring products and services, and providing technical support to the Montoring team. I now lead the Condition Monitoring Consultancy Team, which advises customers on condition monitoring, helps to specify appropriate techniques for their needs, and identifies the hardware, software and processes needed to support this. I am the Approved Training Coordinator and lead trainer for our BINDT approved vibration analysis courses in accordance with ISO 18436-2. Recent projects include: • Developing a monitoring technique for detecting cracked main shafts in Wind turbines (in response to a serial fault) • Root cause analysis and FMSA for failures of the rolling elements on wind turbine main bearings • Specification of the monitoring equipment required for a variety of applications, including in a district heating plant, hydro-electric plants, marine applications and a paper factory, • Identification of eigenfrequencies to monitor for nacelle defects on a particular wind turbine type Prior to that I gained over 28 years’ experience in the Electricity Supply industry, providing technical support and innovative solutions, mainly in Condition Monitoring, a field in which I am now considered expert, as a qualified and certified Category 4 Vibration Analysis practitioner. • Technical direction of a team monitoring over 20GW of conventional generation using vibration analysis and data driven monitoring techniques • Technical development of a service to provide condition monitoring to over Wind Turbines • Regular involvement with vibration investigations, dynamic balancing and failure investigations I sit on BSI and ISO Committees for Vibration Analysis and Condition Monitoring, and the BINDT Vibration Analysis expert group. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.
