About David Gilbert

I possess more than 38 years experience as a law enforcement professional with more than thirteen years service as the Chief of Police of a full service police department. Other experience includes work as a patrol officer, detective (with focus on child abuse and sex crimes investigations), narcotics investigator, patrol services commander, public information officer, training director, firearms instructor, emergency driving instructor and SWAT Team commander. I possess a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice & Criminology and am a graduate of the FBI National Academy. I have also graduated from the Police Executive Leadership Academy, the Police Chief Executive Training Course at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and enjoy a diverse inventory of other exceptional law enforcement training. I have also been certified as a Master Instructor in Indiana. I led a team of police officers to the Gulf Coast area to help people immediately after Hurricane Katrina and have traveled to Russia as part of a law enforcement exchange program. Among other rich professional experiences I have been appointed by four Indiana governors to the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board, have won numerous statewide police firearms Top Gun awards, have earned multiple spots on the Indiana Governor’s Twenty for firearms excellence and I have twice been named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. I have had opportunities to assist in the development of innovative outreach programs including a vibrant Police Youth Academy, a Citizens Police Academy, a Crime Analysis Program, a School Resource Officer initiative, police bicycle patrols, a Self Defense for Women Seminar, Johnny Law, the 9’ Policeman, a pink-wrapped police car in support of cancer awareness and a professional police Honor Guard unit.
