Background
About David Gorman
As an adaptable and results focused Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, I have gained extensive experience lecturing in the further education sector. I utilise strong verbal and written communication skills to deliver theoretical lectures and practical lab demonstrations, with subjects covering physics, chemistry and maths, in addition to specialist topics such as fluid mechanics, material science, polymers and magnetic fields. I am continually focused on improving the quality of learning for students and contribute significantly to module and curriculum development, including research into the latest learning & development tools and techniques. I build strong relationships with students to understand educational challenges, monitor performance and resolve problems throughout the learning lifecycle. My academic credentials include a PhD from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), which I earned by conducting in-depth research into the design and build of an electromagnetic array, suitable for testing magnetorheological elastomers under biaxial loading via bubble inflation. During this research, I co-authored six publications as the primary author. I simultaneously worked as a part-time Lecturer whilst completing my PhD research, covering a diverse range of engineering and science subjects. I had the opportunity to travel on four occasions to Tangshan in China to lecture on DITs international mechanical engineering programme, which developed my multi-cultural skills. Following PhD completion, I joined AIT in Athlone Westmeath Ireland as a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, specifically on the international programme based at East China University of Technology, delivering various modules to 2nd and 3rd year students. After a year at East China University of Technology, I moved to Institute of Technology Tralee to lecture in mechanical engineering focusing on quality control and management including online lecturers and project supervision. In 2020 I moved from IT Tralee to GMIT where I lecture Maths, Stats, Lean Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain Management to both full time and part time students.
