Background
About David Grandy
Upon graduating from the Mechanical engineering technology program (Cad/Cam) option, I accepted a position with Ocean Steel as a structural steel detailer. This involved importing Structural steel component diagrams from 3 dimensional models created from engineering erection diagrams. this evolved into modeling the buildings and associated steel connections using SDS2 modeling software. Having Worked on building projects going up in Boston and Maine including the Portland International Jetport; progression led to supervision of outside contracted detailing companies and shop scheduling of divisional steel to ensure correct sequential steel delivery to sites. I later accepted a position of Junior Project Manager and Site Supervisor within the organization's civil general contracting division (FCC Engineering) This position involved working extensively on site with industry expansion projects as well as commercial projects such as Irving Paper mill retrofitting at the Saint John mill and Centerbeam Place located downtown Saint John NB. These were large, extensive, complex and satisfying projects for any young person to be involved in. Changes in family planning then led me to accept a position with Irving Oil as a refinery process technician. A position in a company which I soon realized has almost seemingly endless learning and development opportunities and I am proud to say that I am still there today. Utilizing modern technology to optimize processing operations, I have also been involved in numerous turnarounds (refinery terminology for large scale feed out. to feed in and on spec planned maintenance projects). Through the organization I have received training in various disciplines from Rotating equipment to Emergency fire and medical response from some of the best schools in North America. I am proud to say that I still serve this organization today and enjoy the continual skills development that is mandatory in such a diverse industrial sector.
