For the last 20 years, I have been pursuing the integration of Geoscience and Engineering. This is my passion. Over the years, I have worked with my teams to demonstrate numerous ways that Geoscience and Engineering can be combined to improve business decisions. Some of these have been published. Our published examples show what can be achieved when Engineering is combined with Geoscience. Examples are: 1. Predicting SAGD well rate by applying petrophysical and geophysical data into an engineering’s Butler equation. Predicting SHmax and Shmin by inverting the way we use seismic and incorporating geomechanics, petrophysics, geology, and geophysics. Predicting where liquid bitumen exists around a SAGD steam chamber using multicomponent 4D seismic, petrophysics and engineering data. Using machine learning since 2002 to incorporate geophysics, geology, and petrophysics to predict sand and shales in oil sands. Co-authoring the chapter on Using Geophysics for Reserves and Resources Classification and Assessment as part of the CSEG Chief Geophysicists Forum Committee. Showing how to use Seismic Geomechanics to increase value in shale plays. Combining engineering flow analysis, geology, steamed core analysis, and 4D seismic to get a better understanding of how steam and bitumen flow in IHS beds.
