About David Haylock

I am presently CSO at VivaZome Therapeutic, having joined them in 2018. We are developing exosome-based therapies for serious diseases. My 45 year career in medical research commenced in the Haematology Department of the IMVS in Adelaide where in collaboration with Chris Juttner and Bik To, we jointly pioneered mobilised blood stem cell transplantation. Within the Leukaemia Research Unit my research focussed on ex vivo manipulation of human haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.I was awarded the Albert Baikie Memorial Medal for describing the use of enumerating blood CD34+ cell levels as a means for scheduling stem cell apheresis. In I joined the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, as Head of Experimental Cell Therapy and with Miles Prince conducted Australia's first clinical study with ex vivo expanded blood CD34+ cells, generated within the GMP facility. In 2005, appointed as Director of the Major National Research Facility, the Australian Stem Cell Centre. In 2009 was appointed as an OCE Science Leader at CSIRO and at present hold the position of Cell Biology Group Leader. During my career I have consulted and collaborated widely with industry, including Baxter Healthcare, Gambro BCT, Dynal, CellPro, Miltenyi Biotech, Bresagen, Johnson and Johnson, Cynata and Coulter. Current research interests include cell-material interactions, biomaterials, stem cell therapy and biosensor technology.
