Background
About David Holder
Currently serving as the Manager for Emergency Management and Business Continuity for Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC), the corporate headquarters for the Wake Forest Baptist Health system. WFBMC is a 885 bed academic, level one, adult and pediatric trauma center with more than employees spanning the system. My career with WFBMC has been an educational opportunity to grow and develop my skills as an emergency manager. Understanding the rules set forth by The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) and enforced via a triennial survey through a third party vendor (The Joint Commission). I have experienced the regulatory requirements for maintaining a healthcare organization to be a great learning opportunity. This is a unique opportunity that many EM's will never have exposure too; in many ways a very different style of emergency management. It is also an area which has expanded my growth in the area of business continuity and disaster recovery and the critical need for hospitals, large or small to understand and make preparations for. Prior to coming on board with WFBMC I served in the US Army which instilled the need for discipline, respect and courage. Upon departing the military I spent the next 30+ years enjoying a career either working in the field of emergency services or working in the capacity training first responders while working in the private sector. One of the more interesting opportunities I have had is working on site with a fiber optic cable manufacturer as the safety and health manager. Over a four year span and with up to 300 contractors man hours) on site at the peak of construction there were only two reportable incidents and no lost time injuries. The experiences and opportunities over those 30 years, good and bad, have set the stage for where I am currently with WFBMC.
