About David Janofa

David Janofa is currently a private contractor working with Youngstown State University in the area of workforce development. The Division of Workforce Education and Innovation on the campus of YSU is his focus. He is an experienced educator, passionate leader, and advocate for young people. David has over 35 years in K-12 education and for the last 15 years he has been the superintendent at Sandy Valley Local Schools (7) and Poland Local Schools (8). Mr. Janofa’s greatest professional accomplishment has been to “Improve the Excellence” of these tremendous school districts. Next to student success, academic and financial excellence are the focal points of his leadership. David Janofa was a two-time captain of the Youngstown State University football team, ’86 and ‘87. He has been inducted into the Salem Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League Hall of Fame. David has been a head football coach and head wrestling coach at Salem City School District. Mr. Janofa has over 30 years of coaching young people. David received a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University. Mr. Janofa obtained his master’s degree from Ashland University. He also went on to receive his principal licensure and his superintendent license from Ashland University. David is excited and honored to be back at his alma-mater where he will now “Improve the Excellence” of the university and community by creating accessible learning pathways for current and future workforce to enhance overall employability. David is married to his wife Kelly and they have three daughters, Maggie, Emma, and Clara.
