About David Krulee

I’ve been practicing psychiatry for 40 years now and it does seem pretty incredible that so many thousands of people have let me inside their lives and minds. I joined the Army to finance my medical education, completed my residency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, spent a year with the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea, and then returned to serve on the faculty of my alma matter, running a large inpatient service, supervising and teaching courses to residents and medical students. I completed my child and adolescent fellowship at a consortium program involving the Institute of Living, UCONN Health, Mt. Sinai Hospital (now part of St. Francis Behavioral Health), and Newington Children’s Hospital (now renamed Connecticut Children’s Medical Center). Since then, I have run treatment programs for multiple hospitals, ambulatory care centers, residential centers, and community clinics. Over the last 25 years, I have performed over a thousand consultations to dozens of school systems across the state. In my consulting work to DCF and the juvenile courts I have also done over a thousand consults and been inside every prison and state mental hospital and visited multiple psychiatric hospitals and residential centers. I have testified in child welfare cases over a hundred times and been credentialed as an expert witness in every juvenile court in the state. I have a great love for private practice. Over the years, I have evaluated and treated patients with virtually every disorder described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. This has forced me to constantly strive for greater knowledge about the human condition in both health and disease. I believe in systems theory: that human beings are intrinsically social creatures that must be understood in the context of their family, society, and historical events. Therefore, I invite my patients to include their families in the treatment process. I will gladly collaborate with primary care doctors, specialty physicians when appropriate, and therapists so my patients will get the best possible care from everyone involved in their treatment. I am committed to accessibility and affordability. I participate in most commercial insurance contracts. For those patients who are out-of-network, I believe I have set fair and reasonable prices for my services. When someone’s treatment needs exceed what can be provided on an outpatient basis, I will collaborate with hospitals, residential centers, and community-based intensive ambulatory programs.
