About David Lacey

David has 20 years experience working as a geotechnical engineer – and is passionate about finding innovative ways to investigate and model subsurface conditions, and provide efficient foundation and ground improvement designs for major infrastructure and commercial developments. In addition, David is passionate about the ongoing distribution of geotechnical knowledge through the practitioner community, and his extensive industry engagement is reflected in his position as the current National Chair of the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) and in his authorship of over 25 peer-reviewed technical publications. He has worked extensively on projects located throughout Australia, and has held roles as lead design engineer (for both permanent and temporary works design), site engineer and a member of Site Superintendent teams on major infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects. Recent major projects include working as FSG's lead design engineer and project manager on significant road upgrade packages - e.g. Cooroy to Curra (Package D), Maroochydore Road Interchange (BHMIP), Woolgoogla to Ballina (W2B), Sports Drive to Gateway Motorway (SD2GM) & Sports Drive to Watland Street (SD2WS). In addition to these multi-year engagements, for the last 12 months David has also acted as a RMS Slope Risk Assessor and Geotechnical Assessor for Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DFRA) projects in South East Queensland. David has extensive recent expertise in the delivery of temporary works aspects of major infrastructure projects, as well as demonstrating how innovative and modern onsite field assessments - e.g Lightweight Falling Deflectometers (LWD)- can provide cost and efficiency benefits to the construction phase of such projects. In 2016 David was the named Engineers Australia's national 'Young Professional Engineer of the Year' and was subsequently admitted as a Fellow of Engineers Australia in 2019. David has also served on EA's civil college board (2020-21), and has held the roles of Chair of the QLD AGS Committee (2018-19) and Chair of the organising committee of the 2014 ANZ Young Geotechnical Professionals Conference (YGPC). David was also the Australian representative of the organising committee of the 2016 YGPC event held in Queenstown, New Zealand.
