Background

About David Lemberg

On 5/29/2019, I presented “Kant, the Law, and the Right to Healthcare” as the Grand Rounds program at Palomar Medical Center in Greater San Diego. One hour of AMA PRA Category 1 continuing medical education credit was available. More than 25 medical, nursing, and social work staff attended the Grand Rounds program. On 3/11/2019, I presented the invited seminar,"Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues in Genomic Medicine Practice", at the Cleveland Clinic's Genomic Medicine Institute, in Cleveland, OH. The seminar was attended by approximately 50-60 staff members, post-docs, and team members. My new textbook,"Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare", was published in July 2018 by Cognella Academic Publishing – https://titles.cognella.com/ethical-and-legal-issues-in-healthcare-9781516521708."Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare" is both a comprehensive overview of the field and an instruction manual for operationalizing ethical principles in the transformation of healthcare delivery and healthcare practice, highlighting action in the areas of health disparities/health inequities, the social determinants of health, and community involvement, as well as key considerations in the process and practice of end-of-life decision making. Each chapter of "Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare" features real-world applications including case studies, discussion questions, “do-it-yourself ethicist” exercises, and “ethics as a doctrine of action” exercises. The textbook provides a framework for and contributes to the ongoing growth and development of healthcare students across the spectrum of specialization in nursing, medicine, and the allied health sciences. Recent interviews and commentary in print and online media appear in The New York Times, May 2017; The Transitional Scientist, January 2016; and Popular Science, August 2015. Previously, I was the keynote speaker at The Molecular Convergence Conference in Tulsa, OK, and presented “Science Fiction Becoming Science Fact”.
