David Lignell is a professor of chemical engineering at Brigham Young University. He currently teaches courses in numerical methods, combustion, process and fluid lab, and energy engineering, with previous teaching in Python programming for scientific computation, graduate seminar, career skills, and fluid mechanics. His research area is computer simulation of turbulent reacting flows including, combustion, particle dynamics, flame extinction and resignation, and soot formation. Simulation approaches include large eddy simulation (LES), direct numerical simulation (DNS), and stochastic models including one-dimensional turbulence (ODT), linear eddy modeling (LEM), and hierarchical parcel swapping (HiPS). When not working, he reads, hikes, sings to his children (badly), and plays classical guitar.
