About David Ludvigsson

I am a historian at Linköping University. My current position as Professor of History comes with the profile of local history; I am also the director of the Centre for Local History. My research interests are uses of the past, teaching and learning of history, history of historiography, history of education, history of sports, and history of Linköping and Östergötland. I teach mainly historical theory and method, history didactics, history of education, film and history, and supervise the writing of student theses on undergraduate, master, and postgraduate levels. In terms of leadership, I lead the research environment "Didaktik i samhällsämnena"(Social studies education) at Linköping University (for some years I also lead the research environment "Historical studies"), I serve as associate editor of the journal Arts and Humanities in Higher Education, serve on the board of Faculty of Educational Sciences, Linköping University, I chair the board of a local archive (Linköpings föreningsarkiv), and am the father of two boys. Previously, I have been the president of the Swedish Association of History Teachers for five years, I have been director for studies in history and programme leader for history teacher training at Linköping University, and have served as football coach of a team of 6-8 year-olds and as floorball coach of a team of 9-13 year-olds. Through the years, I have been on numerous boards, organized several conferences, and have acted as faculty examiner (Sw. opponent) on nine occasions. In addition to PhD training, I am a trained teacher for secondary school. Further, I have taken several courses in higher education pedagogics and have participated in a leadership programme.
