About David MacKay

I worked with high performance and parallel computing at Intel for 22 years. I am familiar with both distributed memory computing and shared memory programming. I have taught many courses within intel and externally on parallel programming as well as created videos about Intel Development tools to assist in threading, correctness, analysis and improving performance. I managed software engineers for 17 of my 22 years at intel and I am very familiar with managing software teams. I managed both the support and marketing group for launching Intel Thread Checker and Thread Profiler (Intel Thread Checker later became Intel Inspector XE). I was a participant in the group launching Intel Threading Building Blocks. I am familiar with OpenMP, Intel Threading Building Blocks, Cilk Plus threading and pthreads. My Ph.D. thesis work covered structural finite element analysis. My emphasis was on parallel solvers - Lanczos Eigensolvers, conjugate gradient techniques and sparse cholesky factorization. As an Intel computational scientist at ORNL I enjoyed collaborating and writing papers with the scientists there.
