About David Major

It has always been important to me to work where the greatest opportunity lies to make a difference, continually developing my skills and experience and encouraging the people around me to do the same. I thrive in team environments, where I am constantly challenged and driven to be a better person and a better professional. I believe that investing in people is always the right answer, making sure that people-centric outcomes always drive process, rather than the other way around! I believe that leadership is a personal choice rather than a job title, that leadership is required at all levels, and that every person needs the right leader/mentor to blossom. I believe that ‘the way things have always been done’ often gets in the way of ‘the way things could be better’. I enjoy the opportunity to work with organisations to build strong foundations through systemic review and improvement, firmly based in supporting outcomes. For the past 25 years I have worked both within Government and as a consultant, across the ACT, NSW and Victoria. My professional experience spans natural resource management, Aboriginal affairs, cultural heritage management and Traditional Owner partnerships. I have worked at both operational and executive levels within Government, as well as a senior consultant in project management, strategic planning, facilitation, mediation and community engagement. I have been developing and delivering Leadership Programs and providing executive coaching for many years, focussing on leadership diversity and First Nations ways of doing and thinking. Thirriwirri Jason Ardler and I have established Thirriwirri, a 100% Aboriginal owned business venture, to share our extensive knowledge and experience with others, and support them in building their own strong, successful and adaptive communities and organisations. Thirriwirri is the Muktung (Maneroo) word for Ironbark. It is tough, textured and enduring, rooted deeply and firmly in Country and culture. It represents our commitment to working with tenacity and perseverance to deliver quality services and solutions for our clients and partners.
