When becoming a Sheriff's Officer in 2008 I was assigned to the Court Security Division where I was responsible for the safety and security of all Judges and staff as well as the over 1 Million litigants that come to our Court House on a yearly basis. After working in the Court Security Division I was assigned to the Homeland Security Unit. My responsibilities were the transportation of inmates to and from various courts throughout the tri state area, the serving of civil process, assisting any other agencies throughout the county with any emergencies, and the enforcement of motor vehicle laws. Currently as an Crime Scene Detective I am responsible for identifying, collecting, preserving, and processing all physical and trace evidence from crime scenes. In addition, I am responsible for analyzing and evaluating the evidence. Evidence may include blood, body fluids, fingernails, fingerprints, glass, hairs, fibers, and weapons. I am also trained in shooting reconstruction. When arriving at a crime scene, I must identify any and all potential evidence and secure the scene, ensuring that it is not contaminated or disturbed. After identifying any evidence, it must be marked accordingly, documented with photography, and secured in the proper container with the date and time. The determination to create a scene sketch with measurements will also be made at that time. I am also trained in the utilization of chemicals for the enhancement of blood (I.E. Blue Star, LCV, and Amido Black). Specialized equipment such as the alternative light Source, developing and lifting of fingerprints and shooting reconstruction. My job duties include preparing an investigative report which contains documenting evidence, documenting the crime scene and the techniques that were used when analyzing the evidence. As a crime scene detective I may also be responsible for appearing at various trials as an expert witness.
