Background
About David Matos
I recently completed my internship at the Latino Communities Reporting Lab at the Meriden Record-Journal, which began in September 2022. In my role, I produced two to three stories weekly in a hybrid newsroom, documenting the contributions and impact of the local Hispanic-Latino communities. This opportunity helped shape my growth story as a journalist through this year-long newsroom experience as a local news reporter. I graduated from Quinnipiac University in May 2023 with a degree in journalism and a minor in media studies. As an undergraduate, I joined the Quinnipiac Chronicle, my university’s news publication. Starting as a staff writer, I advanced in my roles, becoming an associate arts and life editor and finally the arts and life editor my senior year. Creating stories that keep our readers informed while presenting the information in a way that engages the audience has always been a passion of mine. I am a graduate student in the public relations program at Quinnipiac University, interested in pursuing a career in entertainment public relations. In addition, I completed two internships. As an editorial intern at MUD Magazine in June 2022, I wrote three to four articles weekly. This opportunity taught me SEO strategies to increase traffic, interviewing skills and editorial writing. I also assisted with the design and execution of social media campaigns weekly as a social media and marketing intern at Honey Nail & Beauty Studio in Hamden, Connecticut. One of my proudest accomplishments was my time as the executive editor at For The QUlture magazine. The magazine is a student-led initiative highlighting the students of color at Quinnipiac University. In my role, I led a team of writers and photographers to put together the magazine’s third edition. I also copywrote the entire magazine. The magazine has print and online versions.
