About David McClean

I have extensive experience of architecture education in the UK, and have been invited as keynote speaker and to deliver workshops in a number of other countries. I have been involved in the professional validation process of the RIBA since 2003, involving schools on four continents, and have undertaken overseas consultancy for organisations such as the UIA and RIAI. I am a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. I have served as an External Examiner at over 12 institutions throughout the UK and overseas, have participated in and chaired competition juries internationally, and was elected a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists in Research activities and outputs have focused on aspects of architectural education, with particular reference to studio-based learning, its underpinning pedagogies, and student mental health and well-being. Innovative course development included leading the establishment of unique awards at undergraduate and postgraduate level. With well over 15 years of departmental leadership, I have extensive experience of academic leadership and change management, as well as experience of corporate governance. I was involved in practice in Cambridge from 1985-92, leading a number of prestigious projects.
