As a Master Mariner, former Ship Manager and member of the Expert Witness Institute, David operates his company, Maritime Risk and Safety Consultants Ltd with a view to assisting the shipping industry (in particular ship owners, charterers, insurers, lawyers and maritime pilots) with professional advice and solutions, using his extensive experience gained over the years. Specialities for the maritime industry include: Independent legal advice and acting as expert witness (areas include the ISM Code, safety, ship management and navigation) Recent court experience includes USA arbitration, English High Court of Justice and Scottish Court of Session Training (including risk management, accident investigation, environmental awareness, change management, maritime pilotage standards - ISPO - and anti piracy) Safety Management Systems (both revision and composition if required) including ISPO management systems Ship inspections for ship owners and managers (all types of vessels including pre vetting for tankers and bulk carriers). Inspections can also be carried out on behalf of insurers and banks Ship and company auditing (including ISM, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, TMSA, ISPO and ISPS as well as navigational audits) including bespoke company health checks.
