About David McKinley Johnson

I take pictures because I can't write poems. That is the best way that I know to describe what it feels like to tell someone's story, not with beautifully crafted works, but with the beauty that come visually through the lens of a camera. In today's multi media content-driven word, what's behind the lens can now easily be a still camera, a cinema camera or even just the camera in a cell phone. The thread tying all of these together is that in lieu of works, a visual reference is the only thing used to convey information. My experience is born of 2 decades of work in the visual arts - starting in Nashville, TN as I began my career shooting CD covers in the music industry. in 2005, I moved to New York City where my work took a turn towards celebrity and high profile advertising portraits, allowing me to work with many celebrities including Oscar winning actors, 2 international presidents (Rwanda and Zimbabwe), 2 Supreme Court justices (Sotomayor, JP Stevens) as well multiple subjects for magazine stories. I found my work with actors key to my work in the healthcare and Pharma industries as we were often using actors to represent people with certain symptoms. To me, a lens tells a story - whether using only one image or thousands. At the end of the day, my job as a visual storyteller is to tell your story.
